THE 8 STEPS OF WATER DAMAGE REPAIR

THE 8 STEPS OF WATER DAMAGE REPAIR

So you’ve found a leak or have experienced some flooding to your home, you’ve contacted a plumber to fix the leak and he/she has told you to contact insurance because you have water damage that needs restoration. The steps listed below will help you understand the process that follows discovery of water damage:

  1. ASSESMENT
  • A professional team will come to your home to assess the damage.
  • The estimator will create a scope to send to your insurance or yourself, depending on your coverage.
  1. WATER EXTRACTION
  • Standing water will be removed with high powered tools, similar to those used for professional carpet cleaning.

  1. PACK-OUT
  • Depending on the extent of the damage, a pack-out team will be referred to come and pack your belongings and store them safely until the restoration is complete.
  • An additional scope/estimate will be written and sent to insurance.
  • Some damaged items will be able to be cleaned and sanitized, other will be considered “total loss” and need to be reported to your insurance carrier, if that is how you wish to proceed with them.
  1. DEMO
  • If needed, the wet carpets, padding, flooring, drywall, and insulation are removed to prepare for the dry-out.

  1. MOLD PREVENTION
  • If necessary, after the demo is complete, an anti-microbial agent is applied to prevent mold and mildew growth due to the moisture. (Don’t worry, this is safe for pets and children)

  1. DEHUMIDIFICATION
  • Air movers and dehumidifiers are placed around to relieve the damaged areas of moisture to prevent further damage.

  1. RESTORATION
  • After the dry-out, an estimator will write another scope for the repairs to send to your insurance or yourself for the repair/build-back portion.
  • Necessary repairs will be made to return your home to original condition.
  1. PACK-BACK
  • Upon completion of restoration, your belongings will be retrieved from storage and returned to your home so you can get right back to normal.

I hope that you find this informative and helpful during a time that can be generally stressful to a homeowner.
